Stacie and I swapped places last night and Stacie found out this morning and notice a bunch of dots all over her skin. We asked the nurse about it, they called in the doctors and the department of disease control to figure out that Chloe has developed some kind of staff infection in her blood. The dots are cause by the infection in her blood and could go to her heart and damage it or worse. so it Sounds like they will have to remove the Broviak (this is a permanent iv placed in her chest that connects directly to the heart) to prevent the infection. Hopefully it is not made it there already. We got a lot of information on staff infection, and it is a scary thing. So not only does she have crypto she also has a staff infection. I am sure they will add more drugs to her list.
They will treat the infections from an IV and then put the broviak back in in a month or two before the bone marrow transplant.
we have had a lot of people asking us how they can donate marrow... or see how they can be tested. It costs about $52 to donate. If anyone wants to, go here:
http://www.marrow.org/
They send you a kit, you swab the inside of your mouth and send it back. Apparently they can tell from the inside of your mouth if you are a donor possibility. Then if they find you are a match, they call you and ask you to give blood somewhere so they can further verify all the markers in your blood. I think for the actual donation of marrow they put you out, remove some marrow using a big syringe and your hip aches a bit afterward.
You may not be a match for Chloe, but i'm sure someone else could sure use some help - and if you were by chance a match, i'd definately buy you a cold one of your choice. probably 2.
